Plugged In - With District 5230 Governor, Young Koh

District 5230 Governor Young Koh A heartfelt thanks to the 2010-11 Club Presidents, District Committee Members and all the Rotarians of District 5230 for all their hard work, strong support of Rotary International, District and Club projects…but most of all for their commitment to the Object of Rotary.

I am honored by the tremendous support from our Rotarians, the Club Presidents, the club leaders…especially the District Team Leaders, and the members of the District Conference Team.

I am truly overwhelmed by what this district has accomplished, for setting new standards of excellence this year. Rotary International thanks you, the District thanks you, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

To each of YOU, who provided me with a most memorable Rotary year, I shall never be able to thank you enough for your kindness and generosity shown to Yoony and me this year. You showed it to me every day, in every way; At the official club visits, at your club meetings, at the fund raising events, at the multi-club meetings, at your social events and the personal visits to your homes.

I know you will continue Building Communities---Bridging Continents; and I look forward to sitting beside you as we demonstrate what Rotary can do to implement its goal of World Understanding and Peace.

Thank you for your strong support and for allowing Yoony and me to serve you and District 5230.

With gratitude and affection,

Young Koh
Governor, 2010-11

District Conference, In Review
By Kevin McWilliams, D.D.S. 5230 District Conference Chair

To my friends who joined me at the 5230 District Conference, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for coming to the DC this year at the Monterey Hyatt. The Committee and I had a great time planning something really special for you and we hope you came away with all your expectations surpassed!

I had a wonderful time celebrating with you and your family, getting to visit with you, breaking bread together, and sharing the outstanding entertainment venues. You participated with such excitement and joy, that it made me proud to be a Rotarian. And your generosity was unsurpassed. At our luncheon on Saturday, you all stepped up and, on the spot, donated another $24,000 to the End Polio Now Campaign. Wow, what an incredible moment!

I cannot begin to share with you how much fun the Committee and I had putting on this Conference for you. Didn’t you just have a great time? In talking with one of the 27 outstanding, dedicated, hard working, Committee members, she shared with me, that even though she was working throughout the Conference, she was “having such fun, enjoying everything that was going on, and knowing she was a part of making it possible.”

Even John Osterlund, General Manager of Rotary Foundation, commented when he was on stage that he “felt like he was at the Academy Awards.” And Cliff Dochterman, Past President of Rotary International, in filling out his survey form wished “there was a box marked Above Excellence to check off.”

And the best news is that even though we had to spend money to put on this incredible Conference, thanks to our sponsors, we will have nearly $10,000 left over to make an additional donation to the End Polio Now Campaign!

None of this could have happened without you. You made the Conference successful. Your enthusiasm, participation, and the happiness you spread throughout the event, was the key to the overwhelming success of the Conference. So thank you for giving of your time to join us and making this the Conference to remember.

Sincerely, Kevin McWilliams, D.D.S. and 5230 District Conference Chair
